Coyote Technologies' Completes Voice Over IP Field Trial
Carrier IP Gateway System Provides Cost Competitive
Solution for Emerging Carriers; Optimizes Legacy, IP and
ATM Networks

[All,

Coyote Technologies (COYE), formerly Sattel Communications, a company formerly called Diana Corp, now has SUMA blood in their management ranks adding programmable influences to their line of switches and gateways. In-band E &M? I find it odd and a bit confusing that they should mention E and M, with no mention of SS7, in their release.

Regares, Frank C.]

September 29, 1998

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ via
NewsEdge Corporation -- Coyote Technologies, a
subsidiary of Coyote Network Systems (OTC Bulletin
Board: CYOE), today announced that it successfully
completed voice over IP (Internet protocol) field trials
using its Carrier IP Gateway system between the
Company's headquarters in Westlake Village, CA and its
engineering facility in Richardson, TX.

The Carrier IP Gateway system is a scalable, open
standards-based IP platform that enables telecom
service providers to seamlessly route traffic over
traditional circuit-switched and packet-switched
networks. The Carrier IP Gateway system combines the
high bandwidth utilization of an IP link with 8:1
compression, improving bandwidth efficiency by 800%.

"This successful field trial of the Carrier IP Gateway
system completes the first phase of our voice over IP
rollout plan," said Daniel W. Latham, president and
chief operating officer, Coyote Network Systems. "We
are committed to delivering quality products and
services that give our customer a competitive edge and
enable them to enter new markets with
revenue-generating services."

The Carrier IP Gateway system enables flexible alternate
routing of voice, fax, and data traffic over the Internet,
intranets and virtual private networks. When used in
conjunction with the DSS Switch, the Carrier IP Gateway
scales from 8 T1s to 80 T1s, supporting up to 1,920
compressed voice channels. The Carrier IP Gateway is
standards-based and communicates with virtually any
Class 4 or 5 switch via inband E&M signaling.

The Carrier IP Gateway compresses, packetizes, and
decompresses traffic between the Public Switched
Telephone Network and IP networks. The unique Load
Balancing Server functionality manages the IP traffic
and provides alternate routing capabilities. A patent is
pending on the Load Balancing Server. Redundant
control processors, redundant/hot swappable power
supplies as well as virtual route around capabilities
provide 99.99% telco-grade availability.

Coyote Technologies' DSS Switch is designed for
central office, tandem, international gateway,
value-added services, and Internet access solutions that
enable telecom and Internet service providers to enter
new markets and generate new revenues. Flexible,
scalable and open architected, the DSS Switch scales
from 100 to 10,000 lines and operates as a stand-alone
switch or in conjunction with products provided
through Coyote's Select Partner Program, including
ATM technology. The DSS Switch was recently
awarded "Best-in-Class" at the Telecom Business Trade
Show held earlier this month.

Availability and Pricing

The Carrier IP Gateway is scheduled to be in external
field trials in October with general availability by
year-end. Pricing depends on configuration and volume.
