Hmm...what about 1987?

I've only got weekly data for '87. Close, very, very close, but no cee-gar based on those numbers. Needed a weekly close on the S&P of 215 to get successive 20% whacks off the top. Closest it came to that was 223.92 on 12/4/87.

More often than not when the market suffers a 20%+ "adjustment" the path of least resistance is up.
