NO, wrongo me. PA8500, UNIX based. Oh well, starting 2000, the replacements (upgrades?) should be Merced based.

SGI's story to me is more an analogy with an opening scene in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. Here the highway people were heatedly trying to bulldoze a guys house to make way for their new road, while blissfully unaware that above them in space a Vogon work ship was about to bulldoze Earth for a similar purpose - only on a vastly larger scale.
