Huckagate Brewing in Arkansas

Kamala Williams, a longtime family friend and employee of Governor Mike Huckabee, was forced to resign, which is equivalent to being fired, from her position as a scheduler in the governor's office.
Williams was asked by Huckabee's chief of staff, Brenda Turner, to resign her position no later than May 1st. Williams said she discussed her forced resignation with Huckabee, who told her, "she could not stay."

Since May, Williams has been trying to obtain a copy of her employment file, but the Governor's office has refused to allow Williams access to her entire file, even though Attorney General Winston Bryant has issued an opinion stating that Williams has the right to look at her entire personnel file. Williams asked Bryant for an opinion because she was told that some of her file was withheld because it is considered to be the working papers of the governor.

Williams served in a number of capacities for Huckabee, including being Huckabee's administrative assistant when he was the lieutenant governor and working as administrator at the Governor's Mansion. Most recently, Williams worked in the governor's office, handling the scheduling for Janet Huckabee, the governor's wife.

Just this past week, Governor Huckabee refused to say whether Williams had been fired or resigned. Huckabee did say that Williams was allowed to see all of her employment file. "To my knowledge, we
always make personnel files available to employees, and I understand we have in this case."

Unfortunately, the governor, once again, is wrong or lying about what he understands. And the real question here is why? What is the governor hiding?

Williams has said that she is not ready to talk about why she was forced to resign, calling it a "long , complicated story." She has indicated that she may be willing to discuss the matter in the future.

One thing is known for sure, in June 1993, Huckabee asked Kamala Williams to move into an extra bedroom he had in his Texarkana home, saying, "if you have the room, you should use it." What is unclear is just how close a relationship the governor and Williams shared, the exact nature of the relationship, and why she was asked to resign. Since the governor and Ms. Williams aren't talking, perhaps Janet Huckabee would be willing to shed some light on what may become Huckabee's Lewinskygate.

Time For The Wright Thing

Perhaps I'm wrong, but lying to a Federal Judge while giving a deposition sounds like perjury to me. Also isn't obstructing justice by lying to and disobeying the orders of a Federal Judge punishable by
something? By now, we all know that Billy Clinton lied last January, while under oath, about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. But what remains a real mystery is why U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright has not issued a bench warrant for Clinton's arrest. If anyone else, and I mean any of us, you and me, gentle readers, had perjured oneself under Wright's jurisdiction, we would already have been charged, convicted, and sentenced for the perjury. Since Wright obviously does not dispense justice equally, why hasn't a judicial review board considered removing her from the bench? Common, Judge Susan, it's time for you to do the right thing and issue a warrant for Bill. He lied, perjuring himself. Wrong should be wrong, even in the Wright courtroom!

The perjury and obstruction of justice mantra is just getting hackneyed as hell. It's getting to be such an instant turnoff to the general public that Republican stategists are warning that they better stop using the phrase.
