Appreciate that input, John. You're in the thick of it, it seems.

Several of the more oracle-esque <word?> pronouncements by John Chambers of CSCO, and Crowe of LVLT, recently, made me cringe, sending flags up all over the place.

Chambers statement that voice would be free, and Crowe's statements concerning no need for conserving bandwidth, the new network economics, etc. I think we've been here several times in the past.

Have these folks ever heard of the 'corridor' and 'turnpike' effects? Or do they think that the current bandwidth-deprived application sets currently being used will freeze in place, while new highways, tunnels and overhead routes are being created. It makes me wonder sometimes.

Your observations concerning multicasting are well taken, and it's good to keep this, and a host of video apps, in mind when we discuss emerging Internet based platforms. Thus far, and correct me if I am wrong about this, most of the deterministic-like or near real time capabilities of these apps are focused on LANs and intranets today.

Gotta go to the silica mines myself now, and earn a living, but would like to continue this later. Thanks again for bringing some reality to the thread ion this regard, and to this topic of QoS/CoS/ToS, particularly.

Regards, Frank Coluccio
