Progress on West Greenland JV

Dia Met Minerals Ltd DMM.B
Shares issued 21,973,496 Sep 29 close $22.60
Wed 30 Sept 98 News Release
Also Citation Resources Inc (CUE)
Also Cantex Mine Development Corp (CD)
Mr. Ray Ashley reports
Progress has been made on Dia Met's joint venture exploration project with
Cantex Mine Development and Citation Resources for diamonds in West
Greenland.
The work was conducted pursuant to an option agreement dated July 4, 1997,
between Dia Met, Cantex and Quadrant Resources Pty. Ltd. Dia Met has the
option to acquire a 31 per cent interest in the property and Cantex has the
option to acquire a 20 per cent interest in the property. Dia Met manages
and carries out the operations on the property and is responsible for 60.78
per cent of the $3.8-million exploration expenditures that must be incurred
by Dec. 31, 1998 in order for Dia Met and Cantex to be vested. Quadrant's
interest has recently been assigned to Citation Resources, and Citation is
now the owner of the 12,336 sq km property.
In 1997, heavy mineral till samples were collected on the property and a
15,500 line kilometre airborne geophysical survey was flown. The airborne
survey was conducted in areas surrounding the Dia Met/Monopros joint
venture claims, where indicator minerals favourable for diamonds were
initially detected by Monopros and confirmed by Dia Met resampling in June
1997. The Dia Met/Monopros claims are held by Dia Met (49 per cent) and
Monopros (51 per cent) under a separate joint venture agreement, where
Monopros is the operator.
Heavy mineral processing of till samples collected on the Dia
Met/Cantex/Citation property in 1997 up and down ice from 109 preliminary
airborne geophysical targets yielded 15 samples with outstanding quality
diamond indicator minerals and an additional 34 samples with intermediate
quality diamond indicator minerals. The best indicator minerals included
G10 garnets, group I eclogitic garnets as well as D.I. chromites, chrome
diopsides, olivines and orthopyroxenes of diamond inclusion compositions at
least as favourable as at Lac de Gras, NWT. More than 1,000 bulk follow-up
till samples have been collected in areas of geophysical anomalies
identified on the final data and situated up-ice from the most favourable
diamond indicator minerals. An additional 630 bulk till samples were
collected in the 1998 field season for assessment purposes.
This summer's prospecting in the airborne area has identified 22 dykes, at
least 26 sills and one small (10m x 7m) pipe. Magnetic boulders, thought to
be kimberlite, were also found around a circular (greater than 200m
diameter) lake that has a coincident circular airborne magnetic anomaly.
Rock samples have been collected from all of these previously unknown
occurrences. Parts of these have been sent for thin section and whole rock
analyses to determine whether the rocks are kimberlites or alnoites. These
will also be tested for diamond indicator mineral contents and favourable
(kimberlite) rocks will be tested for microdiamonds. Three (200 kg rock
samples were collected and will be processed for macro-micro diamond
analyses pending favourable indicator mineral findings.

Ekati diamond mine now in production

Dia Met Minerals Ltd DMM.B
Shares issued 21,973,496 Oct 13 close $22.10
Wed 14 Oct 98 News Release
Mr. Graham Nicholls reports
The Dia Met/BHP Diamonds Ekati diamond mine is now in production.
Construction of the mine has been completed on schedule and within budget.
Commissioning is well-advanced and all critical process equipment has been
tested and is operational. The ramping up of production began in early
October and has progressed smoothly, while fine-tuning work will continue
for the next several weeks.
All rough diamond production from the Ekati diamond mine will initially be
marketed through the BHP Diamonds (Belgium) sales office in Antwerp,
Belgium. The first shipment of rough diamonds to the sales office is
expected to occur within the next two weeks, and initial sales will occur
shortly thereafter.

For those who may not have seen it, I'd like to repost a portion of Vaughn's post from the SUF thread:

Hello BozkurtD

On a more immediate and upbeat note. I have just returned from BHP's Open House put on for local
residents as a celebration and thank you for the completion of the Ekati Mine. About 1,200 carrats
of some very interesting piles of rough including one seemingly near flawless 9 carrat beauty from
each of four pipes were on display, along with about a dozen .5 to 1.25 carrat brilliant cut near
perfect gems. Their fire was extremely impressive.

The Sable pipe in particular seems to have quite a few champagne diamonds and the company
representative on hand suggested that a fair number of pinks, yellows and blues had also been
recovered.

Exciting times.

Regards
