Agreed. The settlement remains the straw that will break the shorts' backs.
But I've been thinking, if MO beats earnings estimates, I would expect that would
likely propel MO higher, regardless of a settlement. Right now it seems that
a *very* high premium is being placed on beating estimates, especially when the
estimates have not been lowered! Actually it looks like according to First Call,
that within the last 7 days, analysts have revised MO's Sept98 earnings
estimates upward from $0.72/share to $0.83/share. Perhaps a very good sign.
