Sony Corp. (6758) To Produce Content For DVD-Rs September 29, 1998 Nikkei English News via NewsEdge Corporation : TOKYO (Nikkei)--Sony Corp. (6758) announced Monday that it will launch a content-production service for recordable DVDs, or DVD-Rs, on Oct. 1. The service, which will be available at Sony's digital authoring studio in Tokyo, will offer the firm's DVD-R recorders for use as well as provide customers with authoring services, including the processing of images, text and sound for recording. While conventional DVD-R recorders can store only 3.95 gigabytes of data on a disk, Sony has developed a recorder that can utilize the disks' full 4.7 gigabytes of storage capacity.
