Tony & Intel Investors - Intel may get dragged in the Microsoft-DOJ case even deeper than before. Apparently, David Yoffie - a Harvard Professor AND INTEL DIRECTOR - has co-authored a book on Netscape and its battles with Microsoft ! Microsoft is now suing to get the book and the research tapes (audio interviews with Netscape employees) admitted as EVIDENCE ! Talk about a DUMB MOVE BY YOFFIE - to put himself and Intel into this position by writing such a book ! Paul {====================================}infoworld.com Microsoft demands Harvard, MIT research on Netscape By Rebecca Sykes InfoWorld Electric Posted at 7:27 AM PT, Sep 29, 1998 Microsoft has requested research from professors at Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for its pending antitrust trial, but the universities are fighting the request in court, according to a report published Tuesday. The research, performed by David Yoffie of Harvard Business School and Michael Cusumano of MIT's Sloan School of Management, is part of the two professors' forthcoming book, called Competing on Internet Time: Lessons From Netscape and its Battle with Microsoft, and Microsoft wants to use the research as a key part of its defense, The Wall Street Journal reported MIT's Cusumano saying Tuesday. Cusumano said that as part of Microsoft's defense, Microsoft wants to play tapes the professors made of interviews with Netscape executives, tapes which were made with assurances of confidentiality, the Journal said. Microsoft's subpoena for the research has been challenged by the universities on behalf of the professors in federal court in Boston, according to the report in the Journal. The U.S. Department of Justice's antitrust case against Microsoft is scheduled to go to trial in Washington on Oct. 15. Microsoft Corp., in Redmond, Wash., is at www.microsoft.com. Netscape Communications Corp., in Mountain View, Calif., is at www.netscape.com. Rebecca Sykes is a Boston correspondent for the IDG News Service, an InfoWorld affiliate.
