The problem with that example is that if the price starts to move and people on the wrong side just right more contracts they will have to be able to supply initial and variation margin. But yes, given, enough tenacity the guys on the wrong side could set up a dangerous possibility of a massive default. In one sense that was probably what got the Fed to get the banks together on LTC.
