Tony, Article...Intel Trying To Attract ISPs... September 30, 1998 SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., Newsbytes: Intel Corp. [NASDAQ:INTC] said today that it will offerseveral new capabilities to Internet service providers (ISPs) which use the developer's routers and networking products. Intel said that it has developed new remote configuration and multiple router configuration capabilities for its Intel Express 8100 routers, designed to help enable ISPs to remotely configure the routers using their existing network configuration environment. The Intel Express 8100 Routers include several new features and are being demonstrated by the company this week during the ISPCON conference in San Jose, Calif. Intel said that the new remote management and multiple router configuration capabilities will help ISPs use a platform-independent text file format for configuration. ISPs have the option to use the Windows or Unix platforms to configure one or multiple routers, depending upon their existing platform and networking environment. Other new features for the Intel Express 8100 routers include the developer's Always On Dynamic ISDN (integrated services digital network), callback options and improved Internet virtual private network (VPN) tunneling performance. According to Intel, these features will allow ISPs to continue to extend feature-rich, affordable access products to their users. "Intel is committed to enhancing its products and services to benefit ISP's, resellers, and ultimately end-users of its Internet access products, " said Jim Bodio, product line manager of Intel's Network Products Division. Intel said that it also continues to engage in joint programs with the nation's leading ISPs, such as UUNET Worldcom and PSINet, to provide combined Internet access solutions. "We will continue to work with vendors, such as Intel, to help resellers provide Internet access solutions for small and midsize enterprises," said Brad Wise, director of channel sales at UUNET Worldcom in a statement. " The new advanced features found in Intel's routers offer improvements in ease-of-use and performance, which in turn give us the tools we need to continue providing the best solutions for our customers." Intel said that it is also providing tools to help resellers and ISPs take advantage of these product improvements through Web-based training, reseller demo purchase options and the Intel Authorized Solutions Provider program.
