Thanks for your informative article. I was there last summer and could have rented a phone - with little difficulty because I was travelling about - but I would have been out of touch anyway. People don't know my number and I can't read my email.

So the point is not whether you have nationwide roaming or not (you have at least AMPS as somebody pointed out). That's better than nothing.

My point is that the world has moved on. To global, one number, digital, short message and email capable era. My operator has roaming contracts with some 116 (must be more by now) operators all over the world.
