Political, Business Leaders Explore Technology's
Impact On Illinois

<<With three high-speed research networks -- the Metropolitan Research and Education Network (MREN), the National Science Foundation's very high-speed Backbone Network Service (vBNS), and the NSF Science, Technology and Research Transit Access Point (STARTAP) -- converging in the Chicago area, the city is beginning to emerge as a major hub on the "information superhighway." That could have a powerful impact on business throughout the state.

.............
The event concluded with a visit to the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois-Chicago, featuring a state-of-the-art virtual reality facility, the CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment). Developed at the University of Illinois, the room-sized CAVE uses graphics projected on three walls and the floor to immerse the user in a 3-D audio and visual environment -- certainly an impressive way to end a full day of learning about state-of-the-art technology. >>

The idea ( according to my sister's husband ) is to transmit all the information that goes into recreating the virtual reality simulation over the web. Wow...talk about storage needs.
