SEARCH ASCEND'S DIRECTORY TO LOCATE
REGIONAL, NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL NETWORK
SERVICE PROVIDERS; GLOBAL NETWORK SERVICE
PROVIDER DIRECTORY CONTAINS MORE THAN 2,000
ASCEND NSPS OFFERING A VARIETY OF

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1998--Ascend
Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASND.O), the leading provider of wide area
network (WAN) solutions for providers and users of the public network,
today announced a new and improved global Network Service Provider
(NSP) Directory, isp.ascend.com, containing more than 2,000
Ascend NSPs. The directory provides answers for both individual
consumers and corporate enterprises looking for any type of Internet
service and application worldwide.
"Directories such as isp.ascend.com provide a valuable resource
for both individual and enterprise Internet users looking for very
specific types of service with regional, national or international
Points of Presence," said Jason Nealis, director of Internet
operations at Erol's Internet, an RCN Company.
"Internet users may be looking for a new service provider with
higher access speeds or may be in need of nationwide dial-up access.
Within seconds, isp.ascend.com provides Internet users with a list of
NSPs catering to their specific needs. Our free listing in Ascend's
NSP Directory brings potential new customers to our Web Site to
evaluate Erol's Internet service just because we do business with
Ascend," added Nealis.
The isp.ascend.com service directory adds value when, for
example, end users are looking to upgrade to the new International
Telecommunications Union V.90 industry standard 56K modem technology.
With the standard approved earlier this month in Geneva, Switzerland,
many Internet users are now looking to connect at higher access
speeds. And with millions of Ascend MAX-enabled V.90 ports installed
worldwide, there are many Ascend-NSPs who offer V.90 that are listing
their services in the Web-based Directory. Ascend's isp.ascend.com is
indispensable because it is both a viable search engine for end users,
as well as a powerful advertising vehicle for Ascend NSP customers.
In addition to providing a valuable search engine to individual
and enterprise Internet users looking for network service, the Ascend
NSP Directory was developed to better enable Ascend to service and to
understand the needs of its NSP customers, as well as providing a
marketing resource to advertise Ascend NSPs.
Ascend co-created the isp.ascend.com Network Service Provider
Directory with Vision, Inc., a developer of Web-based solutions for
marketing and communications. The outcome was a powerful customer
database accessed through a user-friendly interface on the World Wide
Web. The NSPs have full control of all entries and information posted
to the Web Site Directory and publish their service offerings in
real-time.
"Vision, Inc. is very pleased to be working with Ascend and
believes strongly that isp.ascend.com is a valuable marketing resource
for both Ascend and its NSP customers. Through our innovative
application of technology, we achieved our goal of delivering a
Web-based solution that streamlined the business of Ascend's ISP
marketing group, creating a world-class marketing vehicle for Ascend's
NSP customers, and establishing an effective service provider
directory that anyone in the world can use," said Voja Lalich, founder
and president of Vision, Inc. "No other Internet infrastructure
provider, like Ascend, offers such a valuable marketing tool for its
customers."
"isp.ascend.com has been a huge success in helping us to better
communicate and respond to the needs of our network service provider
customers," said Michael Schoolnik, Internet marketing manager at
Ascend Communications.
"Besides staying in-touch with our NSP customers, we believe so
strongly in the value of isp.ascend.com and the benefit that it offers
our customers, we're constantly running Web banner ads and direct mail
promotions to corporate enterprise to drive traffic to the site for
our customers," added Schoolnik.

Down below 45? Where is the next stop? 39? Any chance of this baby going down to 30s any time soon? Should I get a second mortgage? Oh I forgot, I don't think you can use the park bench as a collateral. Can you?
