I just looked into this. If the first symbol in the list file that you're loading doesn't exist, then the chart program is stuck.

I just fixed both the problems you mentioned in your post, the fix will be out this week or next.

I choose AMES for my configuration, stays there like in stone. unsure when I did that months ago, how I selected it. you might have a clue there, instead of a list, use the spacebar/symbol techique to select start configuration.
