George, I missed it, but if it was Maria B. I'm glad I did because I probably still would be projectile vomitting in disgust.

Wasn't Maria B. the "reporter" who "broke" the "story" on Monday that a Lehman telecomm equip. analyst was opining that NT would trade up no matter what occurred during the call?

From Bloomberg:
Northern Telecom Ltd (NT US) was downgraded to ''outperform'' from ''buy'' by analyst Timothy Luke at Lehman Brothers.

What's more irresponsible - making an assine call like that...

...or putting your credibility as a journalist on the line in deciding that it is worth reporting?

IMHO, the latter.

Also, I don't think it would be a bad idea for interested parties to look into the similarities between the "confusion" over yesterday's NT news and the "confusion" which occurred in the wake of a similar call by TLAB a few Monday's ago.

Two companies in the same industry just happen to "botch-up" analyst calls during market hours? Both calls just happened to be closed to the press and yet information of a "confusing" nature happens to make it out of the call and into the press? Both calls happen to have occurred in an industry in which many large players got blown to bits on a failed merger?

Could just be a strange coincidence.

Or could the manipulation of the financial media be one of the great unwritten stories of the market?

Good trading,

Tom

P.S. Strange, but Maria B. just mentioned Warburg Dillon Read downing the sector. No mention of Lehman. Why bother with follow-up when you're a "superstar"?
