If these companies are forced to restate their 10Qs (quarter earnings), this could mean big-time trouble for us investors.

No it won't, no one cares about them stinkin' income statements anyway. This is the age of recurring one time charges that roll around every quarter, and you just ignore them if they are called one-time or a writeoff.

Accelerated goodwill writeoffs are less of a shock than companies finally recognizing unrecorded liabilities, and the market didn't come crashing down when that happened.
