Osicom Sees Strong Demand For Its GigaMux Metro
DWDM; Ability To Deliver Bandwidth 'Where and When It
Is Needed' Is Key To Metro Demand

October 2, 1998

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via
NewsEdge Corporation -- Osicom Technologies, Inc.
(NASDAQ:FIBR), today reported that it continues to
experience increasing demand for its GigaMux(tm)
Metropolitan DWDM (dense wavelength division
multiplexing) solution among CLECs, cable operators,
utilities, RBOCs, and other metro service providers.
GigaMux is the industry's first deployable metro DWDM
system.

These metro service providers view DWDM as a clear
alternative to the expense and delay of laying new fiber
to meet their customers' growing bandwidth demands.
Also, metro service providers are increasingly using
DWDM to plan and manage growth of new fiber
installations. Feedback from Osicom's current and
potential customers, as well as interviews with industry
analysts support this bullish outlook.

Osicom has recently begun shipping to two new CLECs,
thereby increasing its global roster of GigaMux
customers to five. In addition, there are more than
fifty-one potential metro customers - up from
twenty-one in May of this year - each at a different
stage of considering Osicom's GigaMux DWDM for
network deployment.

The two most recent metro customer additions are: TU
Communications Inc., a subsidiary of Texas Utilities
Company; and, one of the world's largest broadband
communications companies. They join RTC (Real Time
Centre), an information technology consortium of
several banks in Switzerland; a European-based
international telecommunications carrier; and, a major
bank in Spain. In fact, RTC has continually expanded
channel capacity since their initial GigaMux order early
this year.

"As a company that has been defining the metro
DWDM market, it is gratifying to see industry watchers
and customers accept our vision of a DWDM system
designed from the ground up to meet the unique needs
of metro service providers," said Dr. Xin Cheng,
president of Osicom. "Our growing success in the
marketplace is testament to our GigaMux DWDM
solution. We will continue to lead the metro market
through the expansion of our GigaMux family of
products exemplified by our recently introduced 512
sub-channel EPC. Furthermore, we are also extending
the use of our DWDM technology that will open new
opportunities for Osicom."

About GigaMux

Osicom's GigaMux line of DWDM transforms existing
fiber from a dedicated, single-application medium into a
versatile conduit capable of simultaneously transporting
up to 32 independent optical channels. It increases the
total bandwidth of a single fiber from 2.5 Gbps to 80
Gbps. GigaMux supports fault tolerant DWDM rings as
well as point-to-point network configurations. It is
protocol transparent and data rate independent in the
entire 51 Mb/s through 2.5 Gb/s range. GigaMux's
breakthrough EPC optical and electronic sub-rate
multiplexing technology provides 512 sub-channels with
direct optical and electrical interfaces to customer
premise equipment and carries voice, video and data
traffic.
