FYI -- September 29, 1998 Dear IT-Sector Working Group Member: We would like to thank you again for participating in our first working group meeting last Thursday. We felt that it was a very useful meeting and resulted in some valuable input. As you may recall during the meeting, John Koskinen discussed Y2K Action Week, October 19-23. This event is sponsored by the Small Business Administration and the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion. On behalf of John Koskinen, Kent Hughes and I would like to invite your organization to participate in this event by engaging in some of the following activities: (1) Lending your organization's name to the advertisement announcing Y2K Action Week that we intend to place in newspapers across the country. A full-page advertisement will be placed in newspapers across the country on Monday, October 19. The ads will urge managers of small businesses to focus on the Y2K challenge and will feature the names of national organizations that are working in partnership with the President's Y2K Council (2) Publicizing The Week within your membership. (3) Planning activities to complement what our federal field offices will be doing (though we understand the tight time-frame). This effort will focus on the need for timely compliance among small and medium-sized organizations and will center on Y2K educational events held at SBA, Commerce Department, and USDA offices throughout the country. In addition to these activities, the US Postal Service will introduce a special Y2K Action Week cancellation mark and display posters in all of its facilities. These posters will be available for your use as a tool in publicizing Y2K Action Week among your membership. . . . We're looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, John McPhee Director, Office of Computers and Business Equipment U.S. Department of Commerce
