I bought in here a couple of weeks ago and rode it all the way up to 48 again. Sure wish I had idle cash today. I'd place my bet with TLAB.

RESEARCH ALERT- Warburg cuts telecom equipment cos

NEW YORK, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Warburg Dillon Read on Wednesday said analyst Nikos Theodosopoulos lowered to hold from buy his ratings on telecommunications equipment companies Tellabs Inc. <TLAB.O>, PairGain Technologies Inc. <PAIR.O> and ADC Telecommunications Inc. <ADCT.O>. In a research note, Theodosopoulos said: -- the lower ratings reflect continued concern about 1999 earnings for the telecom equipment group, given a slowing U.S. market and uncertainties overseas. -- he cut his 1999 and 2000 earnings per share estimates on Tellabs to $2.25 and $2.85, respectively, from $2.35 and $2.95. -- he reduced his EPS estimate for PairGain's 1999 fiscal year to $0.70 from $0.75, reflecting lower operating margins for the company. -- ADC's revenue growth estimate has been revised to 19 percent from 23 percent. He cut his estimate of ADC's 1999 EPS to $1.25 from $1.35.

while i'm no ace marksman, i think this drop is partially attributable to guilt by association. as you may have noted, BT also downgraded LU similarly: "buy" to "market perform." combined with the warburg downgrade, NT 'implosion,' and alcatel's warning last month, the street's a wee bit uncertain on the future of telecom equipment earnings.

of course, the street's myopic. if you've got your sights set past y2k, it's my belief that this industry (and TLAB over the next 3-5 years) will do quite fine thank you very much.

good luck,
-chris.
