SOROS, FYI, I heard an interview with Scott Ritter on BBC radio here in London last night. Interesting from a 'contrarian' point of view that insiders pushed the FBI into investigating him as a spy for Israel when he was working in Iraq. This, after he resigned, no? He made some good points concerning the undermining of his inspection team by the U.S. and U.K. governments just when they were (apparently) on the verge of uncovering significant weapons finds. Also, as Ritter pointed out, if he were the ludicrous, loose cannon that U.S. government spokespeople now paint him to be, why was he kept in place as the head of the inspection team and sent as liason officer all over the globe for 7 years? His take on the matter as I heard it? --- The U.S., U.N., etc., have completely caved in to Iraq and the Iraqis have now had that confirmed repeatedly. Therefore Saddam in fact has little fear of the West. All this talk in the media of a very narrow range of options for dealing with this and other similar situations doesn't exactly give a true picture of possible scenarios. Suggested reading: "The Next World War" by James Adams. Today, there is a vast range of Non-Lethal weaponry that would likely serve us far better than the usual, boring sanctions. Another of Ritter's points was that Saddam doesn't think as Westerners do. He doesn't give a damn if sanctions are causing hardship for the general population of Iraq and just because he can't sell all of the oil now doesn't mean it's disappeared. The oil is still there and he still owns it. Case closed. Who in their right mind would think that preventing Saddam from selling some oil on the open market for a few years could serve as a punishment that would bend him in to submission? More hype. Question: why is Saddam left to do as he pleases? Looks like he's at the top of the list as our current Dangerous Threat To Humanity. Something we all know each present Administration must have.
