U.S. debt futures close sharply higher

Sept 30 - U.S. debt futures closed sharply higher, with Dec T-bonds settling up 1-14/32 at a record high of 131-16/32. Safe-haven buying dominated activity due to fears about bank exposure to hedge funds, global economic turmoil. Quarter-end duration extension and index trades, coupled with mortgage-related buying lifted T-bonds. March Eurodollars retested contract highs of 95.325.
