Democratic Fund-Raiser Indicted

By MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Miami businessman Mark B.
Jimenez was charged today with 17 counts of making illegal
contributions to President Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign
and other Democrats.

The indictment was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington,
charging him with using straw donors to make contributions to
the candidates.

The 52-year-old businessman becomes the 12th person
charged by the Justice Department campaign finance task
force. ''We are not letting up,'' Attorney General Janet Reno
said in announcing the indictment.

Jimenez is chief executive and majority owner of Future Tech
International Inc., a distributor of computer components and
peripherals in Miami.

He was charged with conspiring with the company and others
to impede the Federal Election Commission in its role as
regulator of federal election laws.

The grand jury indictment charged that donors who made
contributions to Clinton and the other candidates were then
reimbursed, ultimately by Jimenez. The straw donors were
employees of FTI and of Mark Vision Computer, a
Miami-based company owned by a close relative of Jimenez,
the grand jury said.

Initially, the employees were paid for their contributions
through the FTI and MVC payrolls and later reimbursed from
Jimenez' personal funds, the government charged.

The grand jury charged that the straw contributions to the
Clinton campaign totaled $23,000 and were made in connection
with a Sept. 19, 1995, fund-raiser at the Sheraton Bal Harbour
in Miami.

The Associated Press reported last weekend that House
investigators and a grand jury had gathered evidence that
Jimenez may have used straw donors to make donations to
Clinton's re-election. The evidence included payroll records
and an affidavit from a former employee who alleged she had
been reimbursed for her donation to Clinton.

Btw, Jimenez's attorney is the Dem's counsel for Clinton's impeachment, Abbe Lowell. Whatta coincidence.

My Dearest Ann,

Excuse me but your fangs are showing and the venom for those you won't agree with undermines your last post.

Bouquets.

I can't even quote the part I want to respond too - there's just too much.

However, the point is ---------- I agree with you.

However it wouldn't surprise me if Powell ran as a Democrat. His positions are much more consistent with theirs as regards issues such as affirmative action and abortion.
