Did you read Lucent's latest reports?

Wireless is doing very well;
Business products are doing really well;
Despide a shrinking semiconductor market, LU semi is still growing
in the teens.
DWDM is about to take off for LU;
Octel is growing very rapidly;
LU's power supply business is growing also.

Most important of all, due to political reasons, Lucent (AT&T)
was not allowed to sell telecomm equipments in Europe. Other-
wise, Alcatel and Siemens would never have been in the telecom
business. Now Lucent is allow to sell telcomm equipments around
the world again. With its superior product (in price,
reliability, and functionality), it's probably gaining market
shares fast. And maybe this is why Acatel warned bad earning.
Of course, this is my speculation. Let's see if this quarterly
report would support it. The previous quarterly reports have
definitely done it.

But long term wise, packet switching would take over the
world, and LU is moving fast to enter that market through
both R&D and acquisitions, but this is no reason to think
that Lucent is not growing from within.
