Tough to say what we happen tomorrow. I have modest goals, I'm looking to make some money in the next 2 weeks then I'm likely back to 100% cash.

On the positive side we have the recognition that computers will likely have an alright qtr and that Apple will have an alright qtr. Actually, Lou Maz. . . whatever just specifically mentioned Apple earnings in this context on CNBC. I also think a bounce in Japan is possible since despite latest news some progress appears to be taking place.

On the negative side we likely have a slew of warnings and earnings misses coming, the 4th calender qtr estimates are way too high and will be revised down, individual investor redemptions are going to grow rapidily and your going to hear much more U.S. recession talk.

I still believe we'll hold the 7400 level this time, although the transports are collapsing, but I'm still expecting a serious drop sometime in the near future.

The wild card remains (And I still believe it will happen) some sort of support from Europe in the form of a rate cut. I noted that Lafontaine, the likely SDP Finance Minister in Germany is on record for favoring cuts. That would provoke a decent rally. The wild card on the negative side is another major failure in Japan or here.

To me it's all a matter of the market not collapsing before earnings and I'm just hoping I'm still lucky. Rich

AAPL held at $38+ despite a late 50,700 shr sell - Rubin @ Congress

Sec'ty Rubin's interview tomorrow should defend Fed policy and A. Greenspan visits on Friday - obvious mission is market support.

On AAPL, there is a string of positive events beginning with the Japan Expo, and they look purposely bullish , being spaced about two days apart.

Unveiling OS 8.5 10/17/98 ,after opts expirations and earnings , could neutralize a expected sell-off after 10/14/98 earnings.

PLUS MSFT goes to the DOJ's (OS) woodshed 10/15/98 .

Jim K.

PS: Andrew great info on AAPL's analysts who were burned by Spindler ($44/shr secondary) then Amelio's 4Q96 channel-stuffer bonus grab.
