I've always seen Wi-LAN as an inferior company to competitors such as WaveRider, FreeWave, and a number of others. My contacts in the distribution industry indicate that Wi-LAN's products in the past have been poorly designed and plagued with problems. Projections of revenues have been way off and they have recently laid off a number of people (again).

With an IPO of $2.50, most people who got in at that price have sadly watched their money drop to half. WIN's sister company, Cell-Loc, on the other hand, is doing well and they appear to be cautious with their marketing and strategic positioning of the company (no pun intended, for those familiar with the company). CLQ is up around the $2.00 range, with warrants around $0.60. Recall these came out as a unit (common share + warrant) less than a year ago (second public offering) at $1.50.

I see someone is short on WIN. As of December 31, 1998, WIN had a short position of 5000 shares.
