As I continue in the computer industry for a living, I can only remember back when Syquest offered the only alternative for portable mass storage. The "whether it works or not", or has "glitches", or has a 50% return rate, matters not.
Most every peripheral, accessory, and other manufacturer of computer products has the same problem.
Is it an inherent technical or manufacturing defectiveness, or "user error" or poorly written manuals, or whatever.
Bottom line is, the consumer buys what seems to have the ability to solve their current problem, or make them more efficient.
If there are more than one or two brands available, they choose the one from which they have seen the most ads, best reviews, or a friend has been happy with.
The reviewers are just consumers like us.
Yes, they are influenced by outside things, as we are.I myself have influenced buyers and reviewers through gratuities.
Syquest lost a marketing edge, or never had it. The question is whether they can get it back, or get it new.
Is anyone going to the shareholder meeting, or are we all bailing out and leaving it to their management to manipulate the value to their advantage?
I don't care anymore. The e-Bay string is much more positive, as well as the Electronics Arts.Between the two, I may break even for the year.
