You may say I'm grabbing at straws. But I've just been comparing last year through to about July 24, just before the big take-off, with the present.

There are some interesting similarities in the two situations, with our current situation presently looking even more promising than how things looked last year. But, of course, last year we had the Intel ClearSpeech announcement, and it's doubtful that'll be topped.

However, besides a very similar chart formation, on a more esoteric note: the ratio of our recent 5-day MA major trough to the corresponding tough a month ago is about 0.954. That's the same ratio we saw a year ago, just before the take-off. Previous cycles' ratios have been more steeply sloped, with readings of about 0.8 between each. Volumes right now are also very similar to how they were July '97.

The above ratios point to a dramatic flattening of price descent. And, actually, if we can overcome the expected downturn in the moving average next week (all the T.A. indicators are foretelling this 'downturn'), the coming trough will in fact end up higher than the previous trough -- something not seen for a year.

It may not mean *anything* that the current chart and the chart on July '97 look so similar. But I think there *is* some meaning to it. Thus, I'm slightly more optimistic than pessimistic at this point.
