Offshore rig count up by one

HOUSTON:  The worldwide offshore rig count increased by one since last week, according to Offshore Data Services' weekly mobile offshore rig count.

This week, 541 of the world's 610 mobile offshore drilling rigs are under contract.  Worldwide offshore rig utilization is 88.7 percent.

The European offshore rig count is unchanged from last week.  Of the 113 mobile offshore drilling rigs deployed in the region, 109 are under contract.  European offshore rig utilization is 96.5 percent.

In the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, fleet size increased by one to 176 with the addition of a deepwater drillship to the region.  This week, 144 of the area's mobile offshore drilling units are under contract.  Gulf of Mexico offshore rig utilization is 81.8 percent.
