Off -topic -- can't figure out hpow to get private messages now for some reason -- Noticed your web page.

I was out there five years ago and applied at UCAR and various places around Boulder -- couldn't get any interest before I needed to let what is my current employer know if I would accept this job.

I did numerical type work in prior job in the Aerospace world, but was sorely dissatisfied.

reason I looked into programming -- I wanted something to do from home. Quite a number of place will allow you to do this. Still kind of confused as to what I want to do. Almost returned to school to pursue PhD, but couldn't get the kind of pay I wanted while at school and was not to sure of continued funding in an economic downturn of which I believe we are on the brink.

I thought the climate modeling was hot, especially given the polical leanings of the current administration.

Re: programmers -- better than hardware, IMO. Easier to move from one environment to another -- I think employment woes are probably not going to hit programmers as hard. I continue to be interested, but not in just porgramming per se -- want the right app -- a scientific bent if possible. As work slows from time to time (not now, but soon) I have time to develop these skills in my current job.

I also have some interest in writing as much of current job requires much technical, educational type writing.
