<<This is not the kind of thing we should allow pompous parents to make an issue of, >>

There is a proper forum for the pompous parents to make their point - meetings of the school board. By pursuing the issue there, they not only would have a chance to have the policy changed, but could bring it to the attention of the media. If this issue gets enough publicity, it will eventually be resolved in a reasonable fashion.

Personally, I think the school board went way over the line in banning peanuts. This type of extreme reaction limiting the rights of the vast majority in order to make life easier for a remarkably small minority is becoming more and more common. Any rule or law that limits our freedom should be discussed calmly and rationally, not resolved through emotion-based heavy-handed use of power or authority.
