Compaq Unveils Storage Products Division Strategy

Thursday October 1, 9:04 am Eastern Time

Company Press Release

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1998--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) today
announced an aggressive growth strategy for its Storage Products Division designed to advance the
company's position as the industry's preferred supplier of storage solutions. Bolstered by its outstanding
enterprise solutions and services division, Compaq plans to invest greatly in its leading storage products
division.

The strategy focuses on delivering storage solutions in three key solution segments--server storage,

the solution businesses.

The Compaq and Digital storage solutions have been integrated into a single roadmap, with existing
products being offered for as long as customers want them. Over time, the products will evolve and
advance with solutions based on industry-leading technologies, enabling customers to implement Storage
Area Networks and to view storage as a utility service for the enterprise.
