To All:

I don't know where the market is heading, but I do know where
Winstar is going, and will take this opportunity to share with all of you .

1. The president of Winstar international, Dave Schmeid (sp?)
has been spending more of his time in Japan than in Europe !!!!
He is looking at compiling a list of Japanese companies now served by Winstar in the US----I don't know to make of this, but as far as I know, this is the first news of Winstar having any interest in Japan.

2. Winstar is ,very soon ,going to announce a major reorganization.
Hopfully, because of the recent acquisitions, and growth, the company will be better able to bring customers onto the network faster !!

3. A national sales meeting will take place in Florida in about 3 weeks---ALL sales personal will be there. Since the present compensation plan is due to expire at the end of this year, I suspect
that the new compensation plan will be set forth at that time(see # 4)

4. A VERY aggressive marketing plan will be announced in several weeks---Winstar has identified all buildings within line of sight
to it's proposed hubs in ALL existing market areas. The plan is to
have at least 50 lines installed in each of those buildings by the
turn of the century ! The division that wires the buildings has committed to having any of the identified buildings wired within 30 days of the sale, and provisioning has committed to having the customer on net within 21 days of the sale !!! This bodes well for Winstar, because wiring and provisioning to date has been a nightmare
!!!!! At 2000 building times 50 lines, I count AT LEAST 100K additional lines ON NET by 2000 !!

5. Line sales for July and August exceeded the total sales for all of the 2nd quarter--Hence there should be an increase of line sales for the 3rd quarter of about 50% over the 2nd quarter !!!!
IMHO, installs should also be up, as provisioning still has problems
getting lines on net,and consequently most of these lines are being
(temporarily) installed as resold lines, and these get installed within 72 hours !!

Happy market to all,

Joel
