Intelect Enters Mexico Markets for Public & Private Networks With New Partner

October 14, 1998 06:15

RICHARDSON, Texas, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelect Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ICOM), a leading provider of products and services for the seamless integration of voice, data and video technologies, today announced it will be offering products in Mexico through Tecnologias y Aplicaciones Avanzadas (TAAS), a multimedia technology company with offices in Mexico City, Monterrey and Dallas.

The agreement gives TAAS exclusive rights to sell Intelect products in Mexico in exchange for a commitment to achieve a minimum sales volume of $40 million over the next four years. Sales are conducted in US dollars with other financial terms of the agreement undisclosed.

TAAS is headed by Eduardo Brittingham, who is also Chairman of Industrias del Agua, one of Mexico's largest private water utilities. TAAS and Intelect launched the marketing campaign for Intelect's products in a week long series of meetings and technical presentations to approximately twenty of Mexico's largest organizations including telecommunications companies TelMex, Alestra Telecommunications, Avantel, Marcatel; international conglomerates Pulsar, Afla and Cemex; Mexico's leading university Instituto Technologico of Monterry (TEC); and El Norte, Mexico's leading news publication and owner of Infosel, one of Mexico's largest internet service providers.

"The deregulation of Mexico's telecommunications industry which began last year has created a vast opportunity for growth in communications networking. We are committed to establishing a new generation of fiber-based public and private networks throughout Mexico providing state-of-the-art voice, data and video communications," stated Mr. Brittingham. "TAAS has the established relationships necessary to complete this goal. We believe Intelect's products bring the intelligence and connectivity in network applications that are required in 21st century communications at a lower cost than less-flexible traditional solutions."

"Intelect's multimedia access platform, FibreTrax(Tm), was selected for its unique ability to provide seamless connectivity for voice communications, high and low-speed data communications, security protocols and video surveillance communications over fiber-optics, all in one box. When combined with LANscape(Tm), Intelect's video communication product, we are offering a complete multi-point, all-fiber network solution with full-motion, full color video communications," added Mr. Brittingham.
