"Aw, shucks, honey. That thar's loaded with blanks. I use it at the Wild West show where I work nights. Y'all didn't think I'd leave a loaded gun within reach of a little chil' like y'all, did 'ya?" His grin turned to a frown. Then a sneer. He growled under his breath. The police cruiser pulled up alongside the truck. "Hey, you!", the policeman yelled at Muffy. "Do you have a permit for that?" As the policeman exited his cruiser, he stepped right in the middle of the fresh cowpie that was adorned with the small circular object which had been accidentally dropped by Big Dog. Muffy threw the gun at Big Dog and took off running across the open field. She hoped to make the trees before the two men could recover from their surprise. The crop duster that zoomed in from the East surprised her. She froze in place, halfway across the field. The crop duster, astonished that someone was standing in the field he was supposed to dust, lost control of his plane. The plane banked sharply to the right, hit some telephone wires, then crashed directly on top of Big Dog's pickup truck and the police cruiser. The pilot ejected right before the collision and landed on top of the policeman. They both tumbled to the ground, immersed in fresh cowpie. Big Dog laughed. As Big Dog, the policeman, and the very unhappy pilot watched helplessly, Muffy ran towards the trees. As she reached them, she turned around, grinned at the three men, waved good heartedly, then disappeared into the forest. Minutes later, she came to a clearing in the middle of the forest. The white picket fence around the little house seemed strangely out of place in the dense forest. She walked towards the mailbox. "Funny ... a mailbox out here in the forest ... with no roads anywhere around the house", thought Muffy. She read the name on the mailbox ...
