I have never shorted before, but I'm curious... What happens to short positions when a company goes bankrupt?

IMC Mortgage Company is a specialized consumer finance company engaged in purchasing, originating, servicing and selling home equity loans secured primarily by first liens on residential properties. For the six months ended 6/98, total revenues rose from $88.2 million to $181.2 million. Net income rose 60% to $31.4 million.

Lots of insider sales though, and 10 times normal volume today, I presume it was gobs of selling..... what do they know that we don't?
