gbh..very nice site. Someone else mentioned this to me before. I bookmarked it and will look at it in more detail. I really don't trade the index options that much, only when I suspect an especially down/up session.

gbh, you have made my day. I use SPY's as an investment vehicle (tho not these days) because of their advantage over fee based index funds- why anyone would buy an index fund and pay management fees when you can buy SPY's has always been a profound mystery. But until you came along, I never knew that SPY's were not subject to the uptick rule.

Too many times I've lost a good short because I couldn't get an uptick until a half point had already run away from me. And I don't like buying index puts because when they make sense to buy the volatility premium is usually too high (unless you're a lot more prescient than I am). The VIX above 40 is no time to buy index puts.
