Scumbria,
Re.---"What is the definition of a stable OS?--"
I agree with all of your points about multiuser, multiprocess computer. I do work with Sun Workstations and VMS-OS[DEC-Alpha]. My point was regarding PCs. Knowing the application needs of an average user, your best bet is Win-NT. My Thinkpad-NT is running continuously for 92 days without rebooting [no memory leak and suspend works without any problem]. Solaris is a fine OS but ~800 dollars for pc is high.!!!!
Try installing Linux on IBM-Thinkpad, you need a day to get it to work, but you get what you pay for!!!
