Welfare Recipients Stage a "Sit-Down" Protest

LOS ANGELES, CA - In response to the news that welfare reform is working, this afternoon welfare-recipients held a 'sit-down' protest in L.A.'s MacArthur park. Said Vincent Slothsworth spokesman for the protesters, "Thanks to mean-spirited welfare reform legislation, 43% of us have been moved off of welfare and into the work force. If something isn't done to stop this madness, it is only a matter of time before the rest of us are sentenced to work 40 hours a week for the rest of our lives."

The protesters are demanding the repeal of welfare reform laws and are requesting that they be allowed to continue being "dependents of the state". Said Slothsworth, "We just want things to go back to the way they were. We are not interested in pursuing the American Dream, we just want the free food and cash."
