Patrick, I don't think this is a laughing matter. The Makah tribe is asserting some obscure aboriginal right to hunt whales. They claim that this is some sort of spiritual revival, and the hunt demonstrates some sort of respect for the whale.

When Europeans were aborigines they were busy clubbing one another over the head and sending the Irish elk into the dustbin of extinction. Now the Makah propose to do the same thing with automatic weapons! I would have thought we as human beings had learned a little respect for our planet and the life it supports. I guess I was wrong.
