Everyone but generalmagic is getting taken over or partnering up:

This recent buyout by lhspf is not reassuring especially since they are tied in with Microsoft. General Magic seem to be at the bottom of the list for other companies to consider. If something does not happen soon there might not be any magic left.

TikSoft, LLC, was established in 1997 by Anatoly Tikhman, founder and former CEO of Vertisoft Systems, a company that licensed their technology for inclusion in the Microsoft operating systems and the software manufacturer of Remove-It, Fix-It and Zip-It. TikSoft's speech recognition products include TalkPower, speech recognition software that allows users to control virtually all Windows applications by speaking their menu and hotkey commands, and its family of TalkingTools, a group of speech-enabled accessories that include Voice WebFinder, Voice Scheduler, Voice AddressBook and more. TikSoft has developed Natural Language Understanding Technology that allows users to employ conversational speech to operate all the applications included in Microsoft Office 95 and 97 (Standard Edition). It has also developed Voice Pattern Recognition Technology that allows software to respond to a user's voice independent of the language used. Its entertainment product is the world's first talking virtual pet, which features TikSoft's unique voice pattern recognition technology that allows the pet to respond to questions and spoken commands in multiple languages.

Thanks for the great report about Bell South.
Exciting news indeed! Reading an article about Bell
South's trial of Portico is what turned me onto
GMGC last May. I'm very happy to hear the evaluation
has been successful.

Do you or others have any theories about whether
or not there could be a domino effect with the
baby bells once Portico is adopted by one of them?
Do you know of any of the other Bells trialing
Portico?

Thanks,

Drew

Thanks for the information, Sea Otter!

The discussion you mention confirms one of the main reasons for the length of time it is taking the Carriers to evaluate Portico. It isn't about "does it work or is it worthwhile", it is about integration into their existing technologies and features and branding it as their own special service.

It has been said before that GMGC is not focusing on branding Portico. They were going to focus on branding Magic Talk. Whatever each Carrier might decide to name their service,if not Portico, it will (should) say "featuring Magic Talk".

Thanks again for sharing your experience. It helps to keep focused during a frustrating few days.

Seconds Out.

Sea Otter,

If you don't mind me asking, what was a nice, thick-furred, mammal like yourself doing meeting with folks from the Southeastern part of our grand country?
