I believe that if I short a stock (with DATEK,too) that the proceeds in my account get interest.

At least that is the way I understand it. Wrong?

The policy varies with different brokers and different account sizes.

I'm just giving you a thought experiment that might help compare a short position and a put better - i.e. what kind of a short position does a put represent?
