Hi Just,

Re: How do you italicize and bold-face on SI?

First, just type your paragraphs without hitting enter -- the words will wrap when you hit the edge of the screen, and will be formatted properly when displayed (unless that's your thing, don't mean to step on it if it is).

To boldface, type an open angle bracket < then a 'b' (without the quotes) then a close angle bracket >.

Instead of typing it all out like that for the rest, I'll just put a space between each character so it's not interpreted as codes.

Turn on bold: < b >
Turn off bold: < / b >
Turn on italics: < i >
Turn off italics: < / i >

These are standard HTML formatting codes as well. It doesn't appear that SI lets many others through; I learned this through trail-and-error, perhaps they have a document on-line explaining exactly which ones it passes through.

Also, if you're ever interested in how something looks while browsing (anywhere, not just SI), you can choose the menu item View, Source. This is in Internet Explorer, I think Netscape is the same. That's how I saw the color change for red in the preview mode, but that's one of the things that it doesn't pass through. ;-) I'll try it here: <font color=red>This should be red.</font>

Cheers,
KenB

How do you italicize and bold-face on SI? I know there's a link somewhere which explains the simple procedure. Can you direct me?

Actually very simple:

To start and end bold-face: To start bold, type left caret (thing above the comma), then letter b, then right caret (thing above period). Now you are in bold. To end, type left caret, right slash, the letter b, and then right caret. It's that simple.

To start and end ital: Same as bold except use the letter i.

So my ital phrase above read:
<x>To start and end ital:</x>
with a i where the x is. To bold, use a b.

Franz
