DJ the idea is fear ..

Is there fear in the market place today? Yes.
Historicaly what have people (en masse) done when in the midst of economic fear?

I don't think that we have had panic yet .. not yet.

As the fear has grown see what has happened to the US bond? They call it "flight to quality." .. But this is caution, not panic.

During this most recent "flight to quality" something very interesting started to take place. That is the movement toward gold as a perceived part of that "safe haven" to fly to...

Now the status of gold is one thing .. then there is the status of the mining companies that pull it out of the ground. Each tick that the metal goes up makes one more mine that can more than break even.

At this point we consider how fashionable it has been to be short the stocks of such companies.

There seems to be a sling shot potential with these companies. More so in the event of a further sharp downturn in the markets.

I've got only two investments right now. A bond fund and a metals mining fund. Both are doing pretty good at the moment. Of the two the mining fund has gone up ~30% in the last 30 days. The bond fund, only ~5%.

I figure a key time for the both funds will be when all the people with retirement funds get their third quarter report, during the next couple of weeks, and find out just how much the market has taken from their golden years.

Your thoughts?
