Yes, but the bigger point is that if the GE bird were to get knocked out, Primestar could move their service to another bird within 24 hours and not have to repoint their 2 million dishes. That bird on the gound or the wounded one at 119 could be very valuable if DTV were to have a failure. Knowing what I know from industry players and scientists, the HS-601 is HIGHLY vulnerable to both the Leonids and solar (geomagnetic) storms. GM Hughes admitted that electrostatic discharge was the main culprit, but when on to explain 4 other factors that had to be present for a failure to occur.

Chance would have it that this "unique" and "low or remote" problem series of events would occur twice in a two month period on birds of about the same age.
