This explains it. Intel got the DEC fab through the DEC/Intel settlement. Kind of ironic. ;-)

In the settlement of DEC & Intel's cross patent infringement suits, Intel bought DEC's Boston area Fab plus Intel aquired some of DEC's products and design teams, Alpha not included. Intel also agreed to manufacture ALPHAs for DEC. Intel will not market the product itself, only act as a foundry. Samsung will also manufacture the ALPHA and AMD has a license to do so as well, if they should choose to do so. Most do not expect AMD to want to get involved.
