Alcatel Buys 2 Energy Equipment Subsidiaries From AEG SVS

Dow Jones Newswires

PARIS -- French telecommunications group Alcatel
(ALA) said Friday it has acquired AEG SVS Power
Supply Systems GmbH and AEG SVS Power Supply
Systems Soernewitz GmbH, two subsidiaries of
Germany's AEG SVS, which specializes in power
system electronics.

An Alcatel spokeswoman said the company wouldn't
disclose the amount of these acquisitions.

The two subsidiaries had worldwide sales of DEM104
million in 1997, Alcatel said in a statement.

Formerly part of Daimler Benz group and bought back
by their management in 1997, the two companies
produce electric transformers and equipment for power
supply backup.

These acquisitions will strengthen Saft, Alcatel's battery
business, in the German market, the company said.

Alcatel said both acquisitions are subject to approval by
a German cartel office.
