An open letter to Trinity Biotech…

Dear Mr O'Caoimh, Mr. Farrell et al:

Prompted by recent activity on this thread, I write this letter. My understanding is that some of you peruse this site from time to time. If this is true, please permit to me to address certain issues that have been on my mind.

First and foremost, I would like to offer a complete apology concerning the content of some of the posts on this thread. I offer the apology on behalf of myself and others who may feel as I do. In the plethora of "information" that has passed through this site, you have been accused directly and indirectly of everything from incompetence to fraud. One post suggested a vulgar use for the Trinity stock certificates. Others have made it perfectly clear that Trinity's future and well-being are secondary to the making of a quick buck. After reading my previous posts, I see that I am not guiltless. And all of this accompanied with a presumption of expertise or knowledge base on the authors' parts. The fact is that most of us on this thread wouldn't know where to begin to construct a litmus test let alone an HIV test.

I've owned a small business for fifteen years. We develop software for the digital medical imaging field. I am no stranger to hard work and the commitment it takes to grow a company. However, what you have done with Trinity makes my company look like a lemonade stand. Notwithstanding, I cannot imagine the effect on my employees and myself if we were to read comments directed at us of the nature that have appeared here. Again, my sincerest apologies.

Secondly, I would like to remark on what I would surmise to be the nature of your shareholders. If one were to judge from this thread, adjectives like "supportive", "loyal" and "long term thinkers" would not come to mind. However, in the past few months of stock market volatility, time after time, the average American interviewed on the street has made it clear that they are "in it for the long term", even as the so-call Wall Street pundits panic. My belief is that the overwhelming majority of your stockholders see where you've been and where you are going and are quite pleased. I suspect that most of us are content to perform our annual ritual of reading the Trinity Annual Report (mine with a glass of Cote de Rhone) and smile at the progress.

Finally, congratulations on your current series of savvy moves. I and others continue to remain impressed. These are indeed exciting times.

I will be avoiding this thread in the future. If I may make a suggestion, it might improve your collective blood pressures if you did the same. I'm looking forward to the next conference call. Also, it would be my privilege to offer to you and your wives an evening of dining with my wife and I. If all goes well, we'll be in Dublin sometime in 1999. After all, it's the least we can do after hanging onto the coattails of your dedication and hard work.

Sincerely,

Joe Marinelli
