The problem is (or maybe, I should call it an "opportunity" instead of calling it a "problem"!) there are a lot of low-cost brands in India that are more popular than Marlboros.

I wouldn't be worried about India and their less expensive brands. If you read the front page WSJ article a few weeks ago about MO's conquest of the Turkey cigarette market you will know what I mean. Basically, MO marketed Marlboro perfectly, and made smoking Marlboros a status symbol. I highly recommend the article, as it was most interesting, and gave a lot of info on how MO basically came out of nowhere to dethrown the incumbent cigarette companies.
