I got a good story about numbers in the same range.
In 12th grade I was working in a store. A sale came to
$14.15 + 7% sales tax = $15.14 . I thought that was really
cool but didn't thing much more about it. A few weeks later
my Calculus teacher finished his lecture early and promised
extra credit for anyone that could stump him with a math problem.
So naturally I asked the guy what amount (ABCD) + its tax = (CDAB)
He scratched his head tested a few numbers then said "How am I
supposed to use calculus to figure this out." I told him
"You're not, you said a math problem it didn't have to be
calculus." He confidentally stated "There is no such number."
I said $14.15 he immediately wrote it down on the board did the
math, then said, "How do you know there are no other numbers?"
"I replied I reasoned it out." The guy went so nuts a few girls
had to calm him down, then everone was laughing at him and he went
nuts again. I decided I had enough of him for the year and stopped
attending his class. He never reported it because he was happy to
not have to deal with me. However he did give me a 17 for a grade.
IF the University of Buffalo ever checked my final semester grades
after accepting me they'd have probably thrown me out, they didn't.
I realize story this has nothing to do with post grubbing but it is
a grubby story.
